Hunter 410

2000/41 ft/Portland, OR

US$ 109,000US

The 410, was marketed as an offshore cruiser, and apparently is striking a chord with customers, certainly those looking for value.  410 presents a sleeker, lower profile reminiscent of Thursday’s Child, a 60-footer that company founder Warren Luhrs sailed on a record-breaking trip from New York to San Francisco.

The bow is nearly plum; entry angle is 14°. The sheer line is straighter, though this model shares the same rounded stern profile as her sisters, a characteristic accentuated by a rubrail around the hull that conceals the hull-deck joint. Freeboard at maximum beam is 50″. Long, slender black ports on the cabin side and narrow recessed ports near the bow produce the illusion of forward movement.     New Moon has been moored in fresh water the past 10 years by the original owner.

Catalina 34 MkII

2008/34.5 ft/Portland, OR

US$ 94,900US

The rigid boom vang and double ended mainsheet system make sail handling easier and more secure.

Falmouth Cutter 34 / Lyle Hess

2016/34 ft/Sidney, BC

US$ 213,521CA

"Astrid" has had her final finishing touches masterfully carried out over the last two years. The rig has been fully completed including fabulous custom, cream coloured sails fabricated by Northwest Sails in Port Townsend. For full details, see inside listing.

“Astrid” is truly one of the most remarkable custom yachts we have ever had the honour to represent. Her fiberglass hull was built by Channel Cutter Yachts. The cabin, decks, and interior were all finished by her owner, a Master Yacht Joiner who has spared no attention to detail and care during her construction. Over 10,000 hours have gone into her build alone. First class materials have been carefully sourced including bronze winches and custom cast bronze foundry fittings used throughout -- creating a very traditional flare. Material costs easily exceed $500,000 .

For the initiated, Lyle Hess designs need no introduction. The Falmouth Cutter 34 was the newest and last of his design work -- serious, no nonsense, & safe ocean passage makers.

With a replacement value of well over one million dollars --  At $295,000 CAD there is no better value in the market place for a vessel of this calibre.

Sails / Rigging / Recent Upgrades

SAILS:

* A custom, cream coloured dacron, radial cut mainsail with some roach, battens and three reefs was made up in Port Townsend by Sean Rankins of Northwest Sails and Canvas. Also built were a matching cream dacron furling 100% high clewed jib that is now installed on the furler and a matching staysail with silicone bronze piston hanks. The sails were completed in August 2023.

(Sean has 40 years of experience in sail making having worked with Lowell North, and Carol Hasse and his loft has made the sails for Tallyho using the same cream dacron used on ASTRID.)

* Inger Rankins, a master Canvas worker, (Sean's wife and partner), built a custom Sunbrella mainsail cover that is the best made sail cover we have ever seen along with a hanging sunbrella bag for the staysail.

* A three piece Sunbrella total winter boat cover was locally made along with additional covers for the cockpit rails and varnished blocks and a Sunbrella cover for the windlass.

RIGGING:

* A new forestay and Harken MarkIV furling gear was installed by Blackline. The furling line is lead back by traditional thimbles ending in a bronze sheave near the cockpit winches. The chain Bobstay was replaced by a 1x9 spiced wire with bronze thimbles, custom made in Connecticut by a master rigger. New Lewmar bronze winches were installed for the staysail along with adjacent bronze cleats and of course silicon bronze fasteners. Three new low stretch halyards along with shackles and Flemish eyes were also made up by Blackline. The mast was tuned and all turnbuckles now have bronze welding wire seizing.

* Four premium Yacht Blocks with Bronze sheaves - one three part, one 2 part, and two singles were obtained from Toplicht in Germany along with silicone bronze cam cleats for the two ended mainsheet set up.

* Custom silicone bronze mounts for the mainsheet cam cleats were made up and installed on each corner of the Taffrail. The bronze was obtained from Atlas metals in Denver. All fasteners and shackles are bronze.

* Nordik Marine Survey -- October, 2023  (FRP propane tanks inspected and re-certified and propane locker resealed as per recommendations)

General Information

ASTRID was launched in November 2016 and is absolutely pristine. A rare opportunity to own a new and very special custom Hess Cutter built to the highest standards in material and workmanship.

ASTRID is a boat for a person who appreciates Lyle Hess's very capable and seaworthy traditional designs executed with the finest workmanship and detail. The 34ft Falmouth Cutter was the last of a line of cutters designed by Lyle Hess. He counted this design as one of his best and made a number of refinements to the lines.  ASTRID has been built as a cruising boat for a couple who appreciates simplicity and beauty in life and sailing. She has a very comfortable and roomy interior and is built to accommodate taller people with 6ft 7in headroom at the centre line and longer and higher bunks and counters. She has the interior room of most 40 footers. Throughout the build the emphasis was on quality of materials, strength, function, longevity, understated elegance and fine workmanship. She was built without compromise.

ASTRID has been built from a bare fiberglass hull from Channel Cutter Yachts. The decks and cabins have been built using cold-molded building techniques which combine traditional aesthetics with a watertight and strong construction.

Building Specifications

The very best materials, fasteners, adhesives, hardware and coatings was put into building ASTRID. Some material details are:

  • All plywood is French made BS 1088 either sapelli or Occume mahogany plywood
  • All screw and bolt  fasteners are silicon bronze. Sizes above #8 and 1/4" are USA made.
  • Structural adhesives are either Aerodux Resorcinol, System Three G2 epoxy or West System epoxy
  • A number or adhesive destruction tests using heat and impact were carried out on the various glues.

The hull was built by Channel Cutter Yachts. The hull was coated below the waterline with Interux Interprotect 2000E and sprayed with Awlgrip paint above the waterline.

Bulkheads are set on 18mm closed cellular foam and epoxy 'glassed to the hull with epoxy and biaxial cloth and 10oz finishing cloth. The plywood was planed so the fiberglass would be flush with the plywood and would be adhering to more than just one layer of veneer. The hull was prepped with a coarse grit ginder and wiped down before laminating.

Deck and Cabin Roof Beams are air dried tight grained Douglas Fir and laminated with Aerodux Resorcinol. Five Laminations per beam.

The Deck is cold molded Western Red Cedar with an overlay of SilverBali. The lamination schedule is:

  • The first fore and aft layer is 5/8" Western Red Cedar that is glued and bronze ring nailed to the beams
  • The second and third lamination's are 5/16" x 6" opposing diagonal Western Red Cedar
  • The final layer is 7/16" Silverbali, a tight fine grained oily wood that makes for excellent deck material and wears smoothly unlike teak.
  • All the staple fasteners were pulled out after gluing the diagonals
  • the Silverbali deck was set without permanent fasteners. The temporary fasteners set in the rabbet were removed and each carefully filled with epoxy. Three rounds over the boat over a whole day was spent filling each of these holes in the subdeck to ensure no water passages into the deck should a leak occur in the seam rubber.

Cabin Roof.  The cabin roof is cold molded Western Red Cedar and Areodux. One layer 5/8" fore and aft T&G and two opposing diagonals or 1/4". The roof is 'glassed over with epoxy and dynel and 10oz cloth.    The Bulwark  is three laminations of solid teak for a finished thickness of 1 1/2". The bulwark is through-bolted with 3/8" bronze rod and also supported with blocking and stanchion bases. The bulwark was bedded with 3M5200. The bulwark cap is solid teak with Arodux glue joints.   The deck to hull joint; The deck beams are bedded and bolted to the 1/2" x 4" fiberglass flange with 3/8" carriage bolts. The decking overlays the flange and is permanently bedded with 3M5200. The gelcoat was removed over the top 12 inches of the hull and the subdeck rabbeted and  the joint 'glassed over with 2 layers of biaxial and 1 layer of 10oz finishing cloth. The fliberglass joint was covered with the covering board and hull sheer strake.   The Teak Transom and Hull Sheer Strake  are both epoxed to the hull with System Three G2 epoxy. The transom is also fastened to the hull with 1/4" machine screws tapped into the fiberglass.    The Rubrail is a solid piece of Angelique. There are no scarf joints to break open. It is carefully bedded with 3M5200 and through-bolted with 1/4" carriage bolts.   The cabins are cold-molded 3/8" teak over marine plywood. Through bolted with 3/8" bronze and glued with Areodux.    All Hardware is Silicon Bronze and carefully bedded with prepared surfaces and countersunk holes so a ring of polyurethane forms around the bolt or screw. Wood surfaces such as the rubrail and bulwark are prepared with shallow grooves so there is bedding compound stuck in the joint . Fasteners were hardened up after the appropriate setting time for the bedding compound so it would not all be squeezed out. Much of the hardware is custom cast by either Port Townsend Foundry (Port Townsend) or Achinback Foundry (Langford, BC). Most other interior and exterior hardware is either USA or European made.   Samson Post and Mast step  are purple heart. Mast step is set on solid fiberglass floors and secured with bronze bolts and bronze brackets.   Interior woods:

  • Cabin sole is solid 7/8" teak
  • Plywood bulkheads are overlaid with 1/2" tight vertical grain Douglas fir set in Areodux
  • All shelving and bunk and settee slates are Yellow Cedar
  • Hull Ceiling and counters are Ash.
  • Cabin trim and cabinets are Honduras mahogany
  • Deck head and cabin roof and sides are painted white for a light look.

Ballast is solid lead casting 'glassed to the hull with 8 layers of mat / roving

Rudder is solid Sapelli mahogany with bronze drifts and black locust cheek plates epoxy glued and copper riveted. Bronze pintles and gungeons are bronze riveted to rudder. Tiller socket is lined with bronze plate. Tiller is solid black locust with socket end lined with bronze

Finishing

  • Exterior brightwork is 8-9 coats of Epifanes varnish.
  • Exterior paintwork is Interlux Brightside and on the cabin roof Epifanes Mono-Urethane.
  • Wood exterior painted surfaces received a coat of System Three S1 penetrating epoxy before priming.
  • Interior varnished surfaces received three coats of Epifanes Gloss and one or two coats of Epifanes Rubbed Effect varnish for a total of four to five coats.
  • All exposed surfaces throughout the boat were properly sealed and finished. The level of finish is to a very high standard.
Accommodations

ASTRID has a very spacious and open layout with only two full width bulkheads in ASTRID. The result is a very spacious feeling and from the fwd cabin one see all the   way aft to the lazarette and transom. When below the feeling of space never fails to amaze people, even when four or five adults are sitting in the salon.

The Focs'le  has a large sitz tub and a workbench with a flip up lid to port. To Starboard is a hanging locker and linen/clothing lockers. There is full standing headroom under the scuttle. The stize tub is a generous size and is drained by a hose and foot pump. Fwd at the centreline is the head with a flip up teak lid.

Forward of the Focs'le is a large sail locker/ chain bins with access through removable vented double doors.

The Salon is a traditional symmetrical design with two settee end cabinets fwd and pilot berth to port and bookshelves to stb. A 46" long ash salon table that flips out to 34" wide allows comfortable sitting for four or more people.

Aft of the salon to stb is the icebox / chart table and the heater. The heater is a diesel "Herring" made by Navigator Stove Works. Aft of the salon to port is the "L" shaped galley. There is an ash flip up table that connects the galley and icebox which together creates a very generous amount of galley working space. The galley has a custom made stainless steel counter top with one large round sink welded in for a seamless joint. There is one hand pump for salt water and one foot pump for fresh water. The stove is a Force Ten North American compact double burner.

Aft of the galley in order comes a 2ft wet locker, small storage cabinet and open storage bins in the port quarter. Under the cockpit is the equipment area open to the boat and easily accessed.

Aft of the heater is a generous double bunk. Then a storage bin and lazarette locker that also houses the 20L aluminium heater fuel tank.

The engine box was designed with maximum access to the motor. Once the companionway ladder is removed from it's spring pin hinges, the lid is double hinged and can be fastened up. Then front door can be lifted off it's lift off hinges and two drop boards can be removed port and stb. The result is very good access with no silly gymnastics necessary to work on the engine.

All tankage is under the cabin sole and the room under all the settee's and in all cabinets is free for storage. There truly is an incredible amount of storage aboard.

The cabin sole and cabin roof camber was set to give 6ft 7in headroom at the centreline. Bunks and settees are also designed with slightly longer lengths. The cabinet counter heights are 38 inches.

With assumable moorage in the desirable Fairwinds Marina, this 40 ft boat is a well-loved and well-cared-for vessel that needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Overall, the layout of the cockpit and deck is spacious and smart. The sugar scoop, walkthrough transom makes boarding easy from your tender or getting back aboard after a swim. As with many Hunters, the interior space is generous and very comfortable. This vessel has 2-staterooms, and the full-width, aft cabin, is huge for a 40' boat. The galley is well laid out, with plenty of storage and room for food prep. The dinette is large, will seat 6 for meals and socializing, and converts into a large berth when needed. Each stateroom has its own head for exceptional privacy for guests and owners alike. The overall tone of the boat is spacious, modern, brightly warm, and very welcoming.

Sailing this boat brings a smile to your face. There is no reason to listen to the Hunter naysayers as this vessel has proven itself in local races. Layout and Description

Exterior

This handsome vessel has a very straight sheer line and remarkable volume inside, with its 13’ 5” beam. Below water, the wing keel means a shallow draft with excellent stability. Of course, the Hunter B&R rig contributes to the overall stability.

The transom is sugar-scooped with a walk-through for ease of boarding from a dinghy. The cockpit is large, with a wheel and many instruments on the pedestal. The benches are cut out for ease of walking around the wheel, but long enough to lay out on. There’s a locker on the stbd side, a table, and stern perches on both sides. There’s a full canvas enclosure w Lexan windows and a second dodger for winter storage.

Main Stateroom & Engine Compartment

The engine compartment is below the companionway, with access from all sides and the stern. Going down the companionway, to port is the galley. There is a door leading to the main stateroom aft, which consumes the width of the boat, making it a large and comfortable room to spend time in. There are two hanging lockers and ample storage. Windows and opening portholes and hatches, there is excellent light and ventilation. The mattresses were new in 2021.

Galley

The galley is well laid out. The propane stove and oven are aft with storage above. Then there is a good-sized area for food prep, as well as top access to the fridge, which can be accessed from the top or front. Next to the fridge is the top-loading freezer. The counter then extends athwartship with a double SS sink close to the centreline. with a Grohe faucet.

Saloon & Head

Forward of the galley is a C-shaped dinette large enough to seat 6. Starboard of the companionway is a head, with two doors: one to the saloon and one to the main stateroom. The clean, white head has a separate shower space with a surrounding curtain, sump, and manual flush toilet. Opening portholes and a window make for a bright space with ample ventilation.

Forward of the head is the forward-facing nav station. This contains the electrical panel and various instruments. Forward of the nav station is a bench seat along the starboard hull. The upholstery is royal blue and was replaced by the current owners. The whole saloon is graced with ample teak cupboards and shelves, teak and holly sole, with amazing light coming in from several windows and hatches. The space glows with warmth from natural light. .

Guest Stateroom & Head

Forward of the saloon is a door to another stateroom with a private head. This is a smaller head, with a manual flush toilet and a sink with a pull-out sprayer for showering. Opposite the door to the head is a large hanging locker. Forward of all that is the large V-berth with a bench seat as well as drawers und

Both sails were made new in 2015 by Doyle Sails and are in very good condition.

Bavaria Easy 9.7

2015/33 ft/Mill Bay, BC

US$ 93,719.15CA

Easy. The Bavaria Easy 9.7 is just that: Easy to sail, easy to maintain, easy to cruise, easy to enjoy. Well configured whether a for single handed daysail or for a cruise with the family in the islands.

Single handing is easy as the genoa winches and mainsheet can be reached by the helmsman making manoeuvring a breeze. Cruising is also comfortable with two enclosed cabins, large head compartment with shower, bright salon, L-shaped galley, battened mainsail with stack pack, an electric windlass, and the new swim platform.

This Easy is especially a treat as a Bavaria opening transom/swim platform was added in 2023 making swimming and coming and going from the dock or tender so easy.

The price will also be reduced by the amount for a new dodger from Bavaria which Yacht Sales West can facilitate for you.

Valiant 42

2000/42 ft/Vancouver, BC

US$ 234,840.66CA

"Silver Girl" is a two stateroom, center entry version of the Valiant 42.  The hull is Stars and Stripes blue with double gold stripes.  The deck is two-tone in off-white with  light grey non-skid. She looks almost new.

A refined design with many offshore cruising successes, best available hardware and materials, excellent quality construction and finishing, professional maintenance and sensible upgrading by dedicated owners.  In excellent condition and ready to cruise!

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Valiant 42 is the evolutionary successor to the Valiant 40, sharing the look and styling of its legendary predecessor. Over the years, the Valiant line of bluewater passage-makers has always reflected a commitment to product evolution and refinement.

Valiant began the major shift in the direction of the Valiant 42 with the introduction of the "Series 90" Vacanti keel. Not only does this keel deliver state-of-the-art performance, it also results in a lower center of gravity and provides for a shoal-draft capability, heretofore unavailable without resorting to centerboards and tricky bulb-type protuberances.

Significantly, the Valiant 42 deck features a cockpit that is completely wrapped with an offshore coaming for both comfort and safety. Seating areas are fully guttered and an expanded, recessed propane storage system is included as well.

The frontal portion of the cabin trunk is contoured in its transition to the foredeck. The deck design provides for maximum flexibility, while the below-deck volume is increased. There are no predetermined locations for the hatches, portlights and companionway. There are enough variations within the three basic interior arrangements of the Valiant 42 to offer an almost unlimited choice to the customer.

The Valiant 42CE or Center Entry, provides for a more open interior and yet allows for a true three-cabin layout. The head is located aft, and the two, separate, double staterooms greatly enhance below-deck livability.

The Valiant 42 features a double spreader rig which is matched with a short bowsprit to maximize sailing efficiency.

Accommodations

"Silver Girl" is a Valiant 42 CE, center entry companionway model with a queen berth forward stateroom.  This popular model gives you a perfect two stateroom vessel with a single head and stall shower located aft at the companionway.  It features a wonderful master stateroom and comfortable guest cabin, a magnificent galley, spacious salon with a full size navigation station and a dedicated engine room.

The build quality is robust and crafted with the rigors of the ocean foremost in mind.  You will see heavily built quality everywhere; from the locking floor boards to the custom cabinetry.  The cabin interior is light and bright due to the Formica panels trimmed in cherry on the house sides and ceiling and the many stainless steel ports and hatches.

Quality is evident everywhere.  The drawers are solid cherry faced with cedar bottoms and dovetailed corners and roll out on bearing slides.  Hanging lockers are cedar lined and have courtesy lights that come on when you open the door.  All the cabinets and lockers can be locked securely with one hand.  The pantry has four rollout drawers.  The Hood stainless steel opening ports and Lewmar Ocean hatches provide light and ventilation.  The cherry interior is accented by the basswood and holly sole and the light and bright interior.

A walkthrough:

OWNERS STATEROOM:

The owners stateroom has the chain locker forward with space to pull the extra chain back under the front of the berth.  Under the berth are two deep lockers providing storage for storm sails or other seldom needed spares.  The hull sides are finished with Ash battens.  There are two roomy lockers on each side.  There are reading lights and shelves on each side of the queen berth.  Two large drawers under the berth roll easily and are lined with aromatic cedar.  Portside is a large hanging locker while on starboard there is a smaller locker and a seat bench.  Closing the cherry door there is plenty of dressing space.

Ventilation and light are enhanced by a large overhead hatch, two portlights, a dorade vent and an electric fan.

MAIN SALON:

This vessel was built with the custom bulkhead mounted table which makes the salon spacious and open.  Few Valiants have this custom option. To port there is a straight settee sea berth with a book shelf and enclosed cabinet aft, near the galley.  The settee has storage behind the backrest cushions and the port water tank below the seat.  To starboard there is a straight settee berth with cabinetry outboard, storage behind the seat backs and water tank below the seat. The water tanks under the settees are designed to be removeable through the companionway in the unlikely event they should they need to be replaced.

The main salon is bright and well ventilated with six Hood stainless steel opening ports, a large overhead hatch, two smaller overhead hatches, cabin fan and dorade vent.  The cherry woodwork and the teak and basswood cabin sole are beautifully finished in Satin Varethane.  The Ash battens lining the hull sides add a soft warm glow.  The cabin house sides and ceiling are finished in a soft cream Formica with cherry trim.  There are Alpenglow overhead light on port and starboard along with Danish reading lamps and dome light over the dining area.  The sapphire blue upholstery is in "as new" condition.  The overall impression is a brand new boat!

GALLEY:

The classic U-shaped galley is considered one of the best galley arrangements on a cruising sailboat.  The gimbaled propane three burner stove has dish storage and cupboards outboard and additional storage below.  The microwave oven is built-in to the outboard galley cabinetry.  The freezer and fridge are on the forward side of the galley along with a flatware drawer and slide-out trash bin.  On the aft side are two deep stainless steel sinks with storage under, more drawers for utensils, a large deep locker outboard of the sinks and an overhead cabinet above the sinks.  The highly regarded Valiant pantry is just a step away, just aft of the navigation station and features 4 large slide-out drawers for provisions.

NAVIGATION STATION:

The navigation station is a full size, sit down, forward facing navigation station that affords a view of instruments, electrical panels and most of the ships controls.  It also provides an office for computer work, chart work or log work. Silver Girl has the custom file drawer under the nav seat to help keep things organized.

AFT GUEST CABIN:

An aft cabin should meet your requirements for comfortable accommodation for guests but in this case also doubles as a sea berth when sailing on a passage.   Located beside the companionway on the port quarter, the off watch crew member can be peacefully sleeping just three feet from the cockpit.  The cabin can be a full double berth private stateroom with the folding panel and door closed.  There is a dressing seat, two large drawers and a hanging locker.  Ventilation is excellent with two opening ports, and overhead hatch and a fan.  Under the berth is where the batteries and refrigeration compressor are installed.

HEAD AND STALL SHOWER:

The head is located in the companionway to starboard where it is easily accessed in a seaway.  The stall shower makes an excellent wet locker with a hanging locker outboard of the shower.  With hatch and opening port ventilation the shower is easy to use and keep clean.  Fiberglass enclosure with seat, teak grate and sump with pump.  Jabsco manual toilet, vanity with sink, cupboards outboard and even a clothes hamper!

DEDICATED ENGINE AND MECHANICALS ROOM:

One of the best thought through engine rooms on a sailboat.  It is accessed through the head behind the toilet. The companionway stairs can be removed to allow full access to the engine.  The mechanicals space is entirely separate from the living areas of the boat.  The design emphasis was to ensure an owner could maintain the systems anywhere in the world.

Construction Details

HULL CONSTRUCTION:

The hull is built of hand-laid solid fiberglass in a female mold.  Gelcoat is sprayed into the mold followed by a heavy layup schedule of fiberglass mat and woven roving in Isophthalic resin.  The resin is mixed in one gallon increments and dyed red to ensure the proper wet-out of the fiberglass.

The hull is reinforced the entire length of the rub rail with high density foam and is molded with an indentation to accept the sacrificial teak or vinyl rail with finishing stainless steel strake.

STRUCTURAL MEMBERS:

The floor timbers and stringers are constructed of structural foam and are glassed into the hull.  Bulkheads are built of marine plywood and glass tabbed into the hull sides and floor members.  All the furniture is built into the boat and glassed in place to hull or structural members creating a very strong rigid structure.

DECK CONSTRUCTION:

The deck is built in the same manner as the hull in a female mold.  Structural foam is used in high stress areas and end-grain balsa core is used in areas where there are no penetrations.  The deck cores are deleted in areas where equipment is to be mounted.

HULL/DECK JOINT:

The live hull/deck join is bedded in 3M5200 and mechanically fastened through the aluminum toe rail and the hull/deck flange every 4 1/2 inches.

EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION:

Attention to detail is apparent in the installations of components from plumbing to wiring to mechanical and electrical equipment.

Chain plates are fabricated of stainless steel and bolted through solid fiberglass knees with stainless steel backing plates.

The hull is insulated above the waterline with closed cell foam to eliminate condensation and reduce noise.

The engine room is insulated with 1" Soundstop lined foam to reduce noise.

KEEL, SKEG AND RUDDER CONSTRUCTION:

The external keel is constructed of solid lead with 17 X 3/4" stainless steel J bolts molded in place.  The keel is bedded with 3M5200 and secured with backing plates and nuts inside the boat.

The skeg is built of fiberglass.  The mounting flange is bedded in 3M5200 and mechanically fastened to the hull with 10 stainless steel bolts, backing plates and nuts.

The rudder is built with a stainless steel rudder shaft with welded-on webbing that is encased in structural foam and laminated fiberglass.  A cast bronze protective shoe is added to the bottom of the rudder blade which rests on the lower bearing hinge point of the skeg.  The rudder shaft comes through the hull in a seal and terminates in an upper bearing.  The steering quadrant is accessed through a lazarette locker.  The top of the rudder post provides a connection for an emergency tiller.

HULL EXTERIOR FINISH:

Silver Girl's topsides were painted with Imron polyurethane in Stars and Stripes blue with double gold boot stripe in 2014 and it looks like it was just done!  The hull below the water was epoxy coated and antifouled with Micron CSC.

SUPPORT:

Valiant Yachts are no longer building new boats, however they are in the business of refurbishing older boats that have been cruising and owners elect to thoroughly update.  They are easy to communicate with and willingly assist in locating parts or explaining the best methods of undertaking a repair.  The boats were delivered with a comprehensive manual that refers to systems and parts that have been tagged and labeled on the boat.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410

2022/41 ft/North Saanich, BC

US$ 416,127.50CA

Kismet is a nicely equipped and exceptionally well cared for near new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410 Performance.   She is truly turn key ready with all needed service recently completed.

"The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 410 is well-mannered, quick and fun to sail. That a boat with this much volume can sail this well is testament to the full-length hull chine concept.

Despite carrying her beam a long way forward, the hull shape allowed the designers to maintain a relatively narrow entry and slippery underwater hull shape.

The end result is a boat that is well balanced, easily driven and satisfying to helm"

- Yachting Monthly

  • AB RIB Tender w/ Yamaha 9.9hp 4 Stroke

Design Brief

The Sun Odyssey 410 is a performance-oriented family cruising boat which offers a mix of bold features and enhanced creature comforts.   The side decks of the boat slope downward as they run aft to merge with the cockpit sole just behind the boat’s twin helms. This ground-breaking feature makes it possible for crew to move from the cockpit to the deck without ever having to climb out/over, the cockpit coaming.  Offering seamless movement around the decks.

This 2 cabin design offers a spacious forward cabin with centerline queen size berth and ample storage.   An aft cabin with double berth along with large cockpit storage "Workshop"  area.

Kismet is a performance version which offers a taller mast and subsequently more sail area.  She is fitted with high quality laminated performance cruising up wind sails and 2 choices for off the wind; a code 0 and asymmetrical spinnaker.

Her salon and cockpit provide ample space for entertaining and extended stays aboard, while the included equipment offers the creature comforts a modern cruising boat is expected to have.

The hard chines, low center of gravity keel and twin rudders offer stability and performance.  Her bow thruster, side life line gates and drop transom make handling and getting onto the dock in tight moorings a breeze.

"ADMIRAL BELLINGSHAUSEN" is a very special yacht.  Built in 1984 as a luxury ocean going yacht, she has been reborn in 2019 for the purpose of exploring high latitude regions of the planet.  Some of the most beautiful sights in the world can be found here, but it takes a special breed of yacht to get there safely.  Admiral Bellingshausen was refit specifically for this task and has traveled to both artic regions, accumulating 60,000 miles under her bottom along the way!  She is ready to keep the journeys going!

The yacht is actively moving to various locations.

Pedigree:

Admiral Bellingshausen was built in 1984 to the design of Peter Sijim and W. De Vries Lentsch.  Her sail plan and underwater shape was designed for all-around performance, ease of handling and a steady helm.  She has benefited from very attentive owners.  Major refit in 2005-2006 that included new decks, as well as refits in 2012-2013, 2016 when the decks were renewed with new Sikaflex, and then the most recent in 2019.

On 27 January 1820, a Russian expedition led by Admiral Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered an ice shelf at Princess Martha Coast that later became known as the Fimbul Ice Shelf.  Bellingshausen and Lazarev became the first explorers to see and officially discover the land of the continent of Antarctica.

Admiral Bellingshausen, the discoverer of the Antarctic continent was born in Estonia.  Thus, the inspiration for the trip and the name of the vessel.

Current owners’ expedition story:

The three polar voyages on the yacht Admiral Bellingshausen 2019-2023

On the initiative of Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Estonian Maritime Museum and NGO Thetis Expeditions, it was decided to organize a sea expedition to Antarctica to celebrate the discovery of the continent 200 years ago.

First a dignified ship had to be found in order to take us there. After thorough search we chose Jongert ketch built in 1984 in the Netherlands. Jongerts have been called ocean jewels and we quickly realized why. Timeless comfort and elegance, seaworthiness and optimal speed both with engine and under sails – perfect combination for great voyages. The yacht had two more crucial virtues for the colder seas: closed warm wheelhouse with 360-degree view plus steel hull for icy waters.

The owners of the yacht have been closely connected to the sea for decades. Some of them have sailed around the world and all the oceans and one is the owner of a shipyard. That was especially valuable for preparing the yacht for the polar voyage. That was done with the utmost care at the Baltic Workboats shipyard in Estonia.

The President of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, also took part in the voyage, giving the world's first digital signature on the icy continent via the Iridium satellite communication channel.

More than 20 researchers took part in the trip and spoke at conferences and forums in various ports, highlighting the importance of the ocean and its vulnerabilities to climate change. At the request of the telecommunications company Telia, a 10-part TV-documentary was made covering the trip. The voyage was great success and the owners of the yacht started to look North.

In 2021 another voyage was organized and this time to the Arctic. The voyage was focused on climate issues, maritime safety and far-away cultures. Again, a TV-documentary was made, and the yacht sailed five months in the Arctic waters visiting Faroe Islands, Iceland, East Greenland with its gorgeous Scoresby Sund, Jan Mayen and Spitsbergen. Everything functioned flawlessly, the documentary was success and we wanted more.

In June 2023 the yacht set sail to the third polar voyage with an ambitious aim to become the first yacht under Estonian tricolor to sail the Northwest Passage in Arctic Canada. After Roald Amundsen who was the first to pass that in 1903-1906 only about 350 vessels have managed to repeat it and only half of them have been sailing yachts. This is one of the biggest challenges one can encounter in sailing world and we faced that successfully.

The owners have become passionate about the yacht and the polar regions during those years, but it seems that as all the three goals set have been achieved, it’s time to let her go. We truly believe that the yacht deserves and is ready for new challenges, new gorgeous voyages. Our dear Old Lady is perfectly fit and ready to fulfil many more dreams in the future.

2019 pre-journey refit:

With the extended and rigorous voyages planned, the vessel had to be 1) safe, 2) reliable and 3) comfortable.  These were the mandates of the owners to the refit team.

The hull was ultra-sonically scanned, and all plates not within tolerance for the requirements were replaced.  The engine was replaced with a detuned commercial Volvo 400 hp engine so that it would have tremendous durability.  In fact, its first major overhaul is scheduled at 21,000 hours, and it has only 7,000 hours after four years and 60,000 sea miles.  All the ships systems were replaced to ensure reliability, these included electronic, communications, electrical, etc.  All of this has made Admiral Bellingshausen ready right now for another around-the-world cruise with just the addition of food and fuel.

The vessel boasts comfortable accommodations for 8 guests in three cabins and 4 crew in two cabins.

The dining area is combined with the galley for a true communal feeling.  There is a very large table with lots of seating and the well-appointed galley just feet away.

Working Sail Area : 1017.00 sq ft

Manufacturer Provided Description
The concept and construction of the Oceanis 461 is directly linked to the Oceanis range experience. Owing much to her predecessors, whether in terms of her dimensions, the technology used, or aesthetic and practical choices, the Oceanis 461 fits perfectly into Beneteau's cruising range. Her long hull, designed by Bruce Farr and Associates, has great potential for impressive speed while giving that quiet, powerful sensation only felt on board true offshore cruising yachts. The structure of the Oceanis 461 is based on the same principles that have made such a success of the whole range; the bonded and laminated inner molding ensure the best possible spread of rigging and keel loads throughout the hull. Her rigging is also classic and efficient. A masthead furling genoa (drum on deck) guarantees the necessary power for an easy passage. The semi-full battened mainsail is equipped with lazy jacks, facilitating both furling and sail reduction when necessary. An optional furling mainsail is also offered. The deck layout reflects the spirit of comfort and efficiency that has prevailed in the Oceanis 461 from her conception: teak-capped bulwark for elegance and safety, electric windlass half recessed into the anchor well, large sunbathing area forward, uncluttered sidedecks with chainplates centered against the coachroof, and a teak deck option. The cockpit is easily accessible via a door in the transom which is also equipped with deep lockers. The wheel steering position has a full console, to which a large cockpit table with hinged flaps and icebox is joined. The Oceanis 461 is available in 4 cherrywood (teak as an option) accommodation layouts, arranged around the saloon. There are 7 opening deck hatches and 12 opening portholes. The galley has numerous baskets and lockers, a fridge - freezer in two compartments, and large independent head compartments (up to three depending on the layout selected).
