Tartan 412

1990/41 ft/Portland, OR

US$ 99,500US

IMPRESSIVE IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THIS 1990 TARTAN 412! SHE IS UPGRADED, CLEAN, AND READY TO CRUISE! MAKE A DATE TO SEE YOUR NEXT FAST CRUISING BOAT!

ONLY THREE OWNERS, YOU WILL BE THE FOURTH! ALWAYS A FRESHWATER BOAT. SHE STARTED HER LIFE IN THE GREAT LAKES, THEN CAME TO THE COLUMBIA RIVER.

Owner says make an offer. He's a two boat owner!!

Design notes by Tim Jackett

The Tartan 412 features a long waterline medium displacement hull form with fullness in the ends. Coupled with firm U-shaped sections the 412 will offer performance easily realized by the short handed cruiser and appreciated by the racing sailor. The even distribution of hull volume produces a shape which stays uniform and balanced as the boat heels.

Two keels are offered, a deep fin (7'6", 7600 lbs.) and a shoal draft Scheel (TM) keel (5'1", 7600 lbs.). The ballast is carried low giving the 412 the ability to comfortably utilize her powerful sailplan. A balanced spade rudder, on a properly sized 304 stainless steel shaft, offers both low resistance and maximum control.

The tall masthead, double spreader, tapered rig features a large mainsail and high aspect ratio fore triangle for easy sail handling. The rig offers balanced sail sizes with a large main for good performance offwind and efficient headsail proportions for tight upwind tacking angles. Mainsail sheeting is on a housetop traveler and the headsail is sheeted to adjustable inboard genoa tracks for upwind work and a rail mounted track for reaching and running.

The Tartan 412 deck design anticipates frequent short-handed sailing and is engineered for safety and comfort with styling an important consideration. All sail controls are led to housetop winches and rope clutches, including single line reefing allowing the main
to be shortened from the cockpit. Double rails, lifelines and a tall teak rail offer crew security on her wide side decks and large foredeck. The cockpit is angled and contoured to offer comfortable seating both at the dock and sailing. The helm position offers a raised hump seat for excellent forward visibility. Two lazarette hatches and a seat hatch provide ample access to cockpit storage

Forward and aft staterooms, each served by a private head, highlight the accommodation plan. The forward cabin berth is 6 1 8" long and 6'9" wide with abundant storage in drawers, lockers and shelves. Ventilation forward is provided by two dorades, two 7"xl0" vent hatches and the 24"x24" foredeck hatch. The aft cabin adjoins a full head with separate stall shower and boasts a 6'7"x6'0" berth, ample storage and excellent ventilation. All bunk cushions are 6" firm foam.

In the main cabin, a drop leaf, adjustable table with satin varnish is flanked by a U-shaped settee to port and two over-stuffed chairs to starboard. Lockers outboard with large storage areas, liquor locker and an entertainment cabinet complete the main cabin.

Fast Passage 39

1978/39.5 ft/Portland, OR

US$ 73,500US

Happy owners, dozens of transoceanic passages and many complete circumnavigations!

This sought after Blue Water Cruiser is stout, comfortable and is very well built. Designed by William Garden and built at the renowned Philbrooks shipyard in Sidney, B.C. the fast blue water cruisers possess great DNA.

Very few stock production boats are up to the rigors of an around-the-world race. Even fewer have completed such a feat. When sailor, Francis Stokes finished the 27,000 mile inaugural BOC Challenge in 1983 on his Fast Passage 39, he was one of only 10 finishers in a race that saw 16 competitors at the start line aboard everything from high-tech, one design, purpose built rocket ships to converted family cruisers. The Fast Passage 39 fit somewhere in between.

Sidewinder is ready to take its new owners wherever they want to sail!

Call today to line up a viewing.

Second owner imported to canada in 1998 and has had continuous repairs, maintenance and updates.  We are still completing a few small projects aboard, but sneaking these details up so prospective next owners may have input.

Highlander V - the story / summary

To quote a local shop* - “We can say that generally, there are no “homegrown” repairs on Highlander and the repairs** commissioned by the owner (ours and other repair shops’ appear to have been done to a professional standard. The boat is well used and well cared for.”

Certainly, decisions made in the care of this boat have been with a do it right and long term view. The rig was removed with new standing rigging in 2008. Through hulls were replaced in 2017.

Reviewing the records and talking around the community, it’s clear that this boat is looking for another great owner who appreciates that boats need care and attention.

The Basics

Westerly has been consistently upgraded and improved.  A recent significant investment in the rig. deck gear, sails, electronics and the bottom make Westerly one of; if not the best equipped sled sailing today.   Westerly is a modern capable offshore racing yacht, which wants for nothing.

The Santa Cruz 70 opened up a new level of High Speed sailing and forever brought new meaning to the concept of "Line Honors".

High speed sailing, in control and comfort all while getting there first is where the rush and the action is. Bill Lee took all of the fast things he knew about performance and blended them as gracefully as possible without sacrificing speed with maximum power to carry sail area with minimum wetted surface.

The result was the Santa Cruz 70 which for years has set the standard for offshore racing yachts. Heavy wind, light wind, upwind, and of course, down wind, these flyers easily do a horizon job on what used to be thought of as fast yachts.

The Santa Cruz 70 is comfortable and fast on deliveries or the odd bit of cruising.  High speed under power, maximum passage making under sail, lots of room down below, and good freeboard to keep you dry, make the Santa Cruz 70 the all-around super yacht.

Jongert 24m

1984/95 ft/Vancouver, BC

US$ 1,375,000CA

"ADMIRAL BELLINGSHAUSEN" is a very special yacht.  Built in 1984 as a luxury ocean going yacht, she has been reborn in 2019 for the purpose of exploring high latitude regions of the planet.  Some of the most beautiful sights in the world can be found here, but it takes a special breed of yacht to get there safely.  Admiral Bellingshausen was refit specifically for this task and has traveled to both artic regions, accumulating 60,000 miles under her bottom along the way!  She is ready to keep the journeys going!

The yacht is actively moving to various locations.

Please contact the LIsting Broker for current location.

Not for sale to US residents while in US Waters.

Renewed CE Approval in 2023 as a recreational craft:  Class A for 12 passengers max or Class B for 24 passengers max.

The vessel has been categorized as under 24 meters for the load line rule, and is therefore categorized as a leisure vessel, not commercial.  This is crucial in that the vessel does not have the manning requirements of yachts above 24 m LL.

Pedigree:

Admiral Bellingshausen was built in 1984 to the design of Peter Sijim and W. De Vries Lentsch.  Her sail plan and underwater shape was designed for all-around performance, ease of handling and a steady helm.  She has benefited from very attentive owners.  Major refit in 2005-2006 that included new decks, as well as refits in 2012-2013, 2016 when the decks were renewed with new Sikaflex, and then the most recent in 2019.

On 27 January 1820, a Russian expedition led by Admiral Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered an ice shelf at Princess Martha Coast that later became known as the Fimbul Ice Shelf.  Bellingshausen and Lazarev became the first explorers to see and officially discover the land of the continent of Antarctica.

Admiral Bellingshausen, the discoverer of the Antarctic continent was born in Estonia.  Thus, the inspiration for the trip and the name of the vessel.

Current owners’ expedition story:

The three polar voyages on the yacht Admiral Bellingshausen 2019-2023

On the initiative of Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Estonian Maritime Museum and NGO Thetis Expeditions, it was decided to organize a sea expedition to Antarctica to celebrate the discovery of the continent 200 years ago.

First a dignified ship had to be found in order to take us there. After thorough search we chose Jongert ketch built in 1984 in the Netherlands. Jongerts have been called ocean jewels and we quickly realized why. Timeless comfort and elegance, seaworthiness and optimal speed both with engine and under sails – perfect combination for great voyages. The yacht had two more crucial virtues for the colder seas: closed warm wheelhouse with 360-degree view plus steel hull for icy waters.

The owners of the yacht have been closely connected to the sea for decades. Some of them have sailed around the world and all the oceans and one is the owner of a shipyard. That was especially valuable for preparing the yacht for the polar voyage. That was done with the utmost care at the Baltic Workboats shipyard in Estonia.

The President of the Republic of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, also took part in the voyage, giving the world's first digital signature on the icy continent via the Iridium satellite communication channel.

More than 20 researchers took part in the trip and spoke at conferences and forums in various ports, highlighting the importance of the ocean and its vulnerabilities to climate change. At the request of the telecommunications company Telia, a 10-part TV-documentary was made covering the trip. The voyage was great success and the owners of the yacht started to look North.

In 2021 another voyage was organized and this time to the Arctic. The voyage was focused on climate issues, maritime safety and far-away cultures. Again, a TV-documentary was made, and the yacht sailed five months in the Arctic waters visiting Faroe Islands, Iceland, East Greenland with its gorgeous Scoresby Sund, Jan Mayen and Spitsbergen. Everything functioned flawlessly, the documentary was success and we wanted more.

In June 2023 the yacht set sail to the third polar voyage with an ambitious aim to become the first yacht under Estonian tricolor to sail the Northwest Passage in Arctic Canada. After Roald Amundsen who was the first to pass that in 1903-1906 only about 350 vessels have managed to repeat it and only half of them have been sailing yachts. This is one of the biggest challenges one can encounter in sailing world and we faced that successfully.

The owners have become passionate about the yacht and the polar regions during those years, but it seems that as all the three goals set have been achieved, it’s time to let her go. We truly believe that the yacht deserves and is ready for new challenges, new gorgeous voyages. Our dear Old Lady is perfectly fit and ready to fulfil many more dreams in the future.

2019 pre-journey refit:

With the extended and rigorous voyages planned, the vessel had to be 1) safe, 2) reliable and 3) comfortable.  These were the mandates of the owners to the refit team.

The hull was ultra-sonically scanned, and all plates not within tolerance for the requirements were replaced.  The engine was replaced with a detuned commercial Volvo 400 hp engine so that it would have tremendous durability.  In fact, its first major overhaul is scheduled at 21,000 hours, and it has only 7,000 hours after four years and 60,000 sea miles.  All the ships systems were replaced to ensure reliability, these included electronic, communications, electrical, etc.  All of this has made Admiral Bellingshausen ready right now for another around-the-world cruise with just the addition of food and fuel.

Hans Christian 38 MK II

1979/38 ft/Sidney, BC

US$ 108,173.20CA

These boats with their full keels, easily manageable sailplans and seaworthy cockpits were built for crossing oceans and extended adventures. Built to a quality unobtainable in modern times – solid teak, extensive bronze, and a robust hull. A very comfortable motion with a full keel. The MkII takes the solid design of the HC38T and adds more beam, a taller mast and more sail area for better performance under sail especially in light air.

Montreaux has benefited from extensive care and a major refit in 1999/2000

Amel 54 KETCH

2011/54 ft/Sidney, BC

US$ 720,000CA

It is with great pleasure to bring this pristine Amel 54 Ketch to market. "Max" is hull # 173, the last 54ft produced. She is loaded with every option, and at the time of the build, the owner requested that Amel install a Steyr Motor which was the new engine brand being installed in the 55's.

This one owner boat, is currently on her second circumnavigation, and is currently sailing down the west coast of North America after spending the summer of 2023 in Alaska and the PNW.

When I took these photos in the middle of their cruise, the boat was so clean and tidy, it looked like she was part of a boat show. That is how meticulous the owners are. All equipment is perfectly maintained with no deferred maintenance.

The vessel is set up for short handed sailing, as the owners never sail with crew. (except through Patagonia). Amel Yachts need no introduction and offer an extensive list of high quality options, which "Max" is loaded with for true offshore cruising.

Ericson Sloop

1970/41.33 ft/Sidney, BC

US$ 72,724.55CA

A graceful sheer, lean beam, and overhangs inspired by the CCA racing rules gave rise to a boat that is as easy to look at as she is to sail.  She has offshore capability as her previous owner has sailed her to Mexico and current owners have sailed her to the northern reaches of the Salish Sea.

She has been professionally repowered with an Oceanvolt electric propulsion system by Philbrooks Boatyard. This system is capable of recharging her batteries after achieving a speed over 4 knots under sail and is capable of cruising about 40 miles on one charge at about 6 knots.

Offered at a fraction of her value.  Your opportunity to go Green!

Moorage is available at North Saanich Marina!

Accommodations

The layout aboard the E-41 is fairly standard for the era. While narrow by todays standards, the beam can be an asset in heavy weather and Ericsons efficient use of furniture does not detract from overall useful space. To port of a user-friendly, four-step companionway ladder lies a functional U-shaped galley. To starboard is a chart table and quarter berth. The saloon provides a spacious dinette that converts to a comfortable double berth, and a pilot berth is stacked above the starboard settee, which extends out to make another berth. Just forward of the mast is an enclosed head compartment to port with hanging lockers to starboard and a comfortable V-berth. Adding a few opening ports and upgrading to modern hatches adds considerably to the comfort below.

Additional

The Oceanvolt electric saildrive is powered by 48 Volt batteries and was professionally  installed by Philbrooks Boat Yard in Sidney, BC

The drive unit batteries are charged by shore power or by the propulsion system after achieving 4 knots or greater.

Lady Jane is a very nice example of an original interior and exterior vessel with updated propulsion system, Ericson 41  Her brightwork has been refinished by Philbrooks.

Her equipment includes:

  • She is equipped with Lazy Jacks for ease of mainsail handling
  • Roller furling headsail
  • Spinnaker
  • Standard Horizon VHF radio with RAM 3+
  • Garmin GPS map 7607 plotter
  • Clarion M 505 stereo with Bluetooth
  • Raymarine 60+ tridata
  • Raymarine 60+ apparent wind and wind speed indicator
  • Force 10 propane cabin heater
  • Electric anchor windlass
  • Lifering and MOB pole
  • 12 Volt spotlight
  • 4 burner propane stove with oven
  • Stainless steel double sinks in galley
  • Victron energy digital multi control
  • Wood Freeman Auto pilot
  • Heart interface
  • 110 Volt baseboard cabin heat

Beneteau 40

2008/40 ft/Nanoose Bay, BC

US$ 164,452.50CA

For a cruising couple in the Pacific Northwest, it doesn’t get much better than this two-cabin, ‘owner’s’ version of the immensely popular Beneteau 40. This CE Class A-approved world cruiser has all the features you need for safe, comfortable, and elegant cruising in BC and beyond.

Some of the most popular features include:

  • Full cockpit enclosure
  • In-mast furling
  • Two large cabins
  • Bright interior with great headroom
  • Espar diesel heat with hot water
  • Walk-through transom
  • 400 watts of solar
  • Reliable Yanmar engine

This two-owner Beneteau 40 has been well looked after, thoughtfully upgraded, and maintained and is ready for its next owners. The current moorage is assumable pending the marina manager's approval in the desirable Fairwinds Marina.

 Accommodations

The interior living spaces were designed by the Nauta Design firm from Italy. A benchmark in the super yacht world, Nauta Design helped the Beneteau 40 achieve a balance of contemporary aesthetics, comfort, and functionality on board. With great headroom, large windows, and plentiful seating, the salon is an inviting and comfortable space.

The owner’s version has two cabins which allows for excellent privacy and larger cabins with appropriate amenities. The aft cabin has a large queen berth with good storage and lighting.  The forward cabin has a v-berth as well as hanging lockers, shelves, and a changing table with a bench.

The salon has a large U-shaped seating area with a centreline table and a bench seat to port. Forward of the bench seat is the navigation table with an electric panel with battery and levels monitoring

There are well-placed opening ports throughout, allowing for lots of natural light as well as managing airflow as needed.  On colder days there is a Webasto hydronic heater to keep you warm. The diesel heater also heats your water for hot showers at anchor without the need to run your engine or use a generator.

The large head has plenty of space, great lighting, an electric toilet and a separate shower stall. It can be entered from the base of the companionway or directly from the rear cabin. There is also a heater outlet to keep everyone comfortable.

The Cockpit

One of the Beneteau 40’s best features is the cockpit, and it will quickly become your favorite place, and not just when you are on the boat. With new cockpit cushions, seating for 10, and a full canvas enclosure, there is plenty of space to relax, read, entertain, and enjoy the experiences that only boating can provide. With dual steering wheels, you have great visibility on either tack while providing easy access fore and aft.  There is a large central table with folding leaves on both sides to maximize usable table space.  The walk-through transom door provides convenient access to the dock, if stern tied, as well as an easy way to access the water or the tender. There is a hot and cold shower wand in the cockpit as well as plenty of storage in the lazarette. All running rigging is routed to the cockpit for ease of sail handling and safety.

Valiant 42

2000/42 ft/Vancouver, BC

US$ 237,177.05CA

"Silver Girl" is a two stateroom, center entry version of the Valiant 42.  The hull is Stars and Stripes blue with double gold stripes.  The deck is two-tone in off-white with  light grey non-skid. She looks NEW.

A refined design with many offshore cruising successes, best available hardware and materials, excellent quality construction and finishing, professional maintenance and sensible upgrading by dedicated owners.  In "new" condition and ready to cruise!

Manufacturer Provided Description

The Valiant 42 is the evolutionary successor to the Valiant 40, sharing the look and styling of its legendary predecessor. Over the years, the Valiant line of bluewater passage-makers has always reflected a commitment to product evolution and refinement.

Valiant began the major shift in the direction of the Valiant 42 with the introduction of the "Series 90" Vacanti keel. Not only does this keel deliver state-of-the-art performance, it also results in a lower center of gravity and provides for a shoal-draft capability, heretofore unavailable without resorting to centerboards and tricky bulb-type protuberances.

Significantly, the Valiant 42 deck features a cockpit that is completely wrapped with an offshore coaming for both comfort and safety. Seating areas are fully guttered and an expanded, recessed propane storage system is included as well.

The frontal portion of the cabin trunk is contoured in its transition to the foredeck. The deck design provides for maximum flexibility, while the below-deck volume is increased. There are no predetermined locations for the hatches, portlights and companionway. There are enough variations within the three basic interior arrangements of the Valiant 42 to offer an almost unlimited choice to the customer.

The Valiant 42CE or Center Entry, provides for a more open interior and yet allows for a true three-cabin layout. The head is located aft, and the two, separate, double staterooms greatly enhance below-deck livability.

The Valiant 42 features a double spreader rig which is matched with a short bowsprit to maximize sailing efficiency.

Accommodations

"Silver Girl" is a Valiant 42 CE, center entry companionway model with a queen berth forward stateroom.  This popular model gives you a perfect two stateroom vessel with a single head and stall shower located aft at the companionway.  It features a wonderful master stateroom and comfortable guest cabin, a magnificent galley, spacious salon with a full size navigation station and a dedicated engine room.

The build quality is robust and crafted with the rigors of the ocean foremost in mind.  You will see heavily built quality everywhere; from the locking floor boards to the custom cabinetry.  The cabin interior is light and bright due to the Formica panels trimmed in cherry on the house sides and ceiling and the many stainless steel ports and hatches.

Quality is evident everywhere.  The drawers are solid cherry faced with cedar bottoms and dovetailed corners and roll out on bearing slides.  Hanging lockers are cedar lined and have courtesy lights that come on when you open the door.  All the cabinets and lockers can be locked securely with one hand.  The pantry has four rollout drawers.  The Hood stainless steel opening ports and Lewmar Ocean hatches provide light and ventilation.  The cherry interior is accented by the basswood and holly sole and the light and bright interior.

A walkthrough:

OWNERS STATEROOM:

The owners stateroom has the chain locker forward with space to pull the extra chain back under the front of the berth.  Under the berth are two deep lockers providing storage for storm sails or other seldom needed spares.  The hull sides are finished with Ash battens.  There are two roomy lockers on each side.  There are reading lights and shelves on each side of the queen berth.  Two large drawers under the berth roll easily and are lined with aromatic cedar.  Portside is a large hanging locker while on starboard there is a smaller locker and a seat bench.  Closing the cherry door there is plenty of dressing space.

Ventilation and light are enhanced by a large overhead hatch, two portlights, a dorade vent and an electric fan.

MAIN SALON:

This vessel was built with the custom bulkhead mounted table which makes the salon spacious and open.  Few Valiants have this custom option. To port there is a straight settee sea berth with a book shelf and enclosed cabinet aft, near the galley.  The settee has storage behind the backrest cushions and the port water tank below the seat.  To starboard there is a straight settee berth with cabinetry outboard, storage behind the seat backs and water tank below the seat. The water tanks under the settees are designed to be removeable through the companionway in the unlikely event they should they need to be replaced.

The main salon is bright and well ventilated with six Hood stainless steel opening ports, a large overhead hatch, two smaller overhead hatches, cabin fan and dorade vent.  The cherry woodwork and the teak and basswood cabin sole are beautifully finished in Satin Varethane.  The Ash battens lining the hull sides add a soft warm glow.  The cabin house sides and ceiling are finished in a soft cream Formica with cherry trim.  There are Alpenglow overhead light on port and starboard along with Danish reading lamps and dome light over the dining area.  The sapphire blue upholstery is in "as new" condition.  The overall impression is a brand new boat!

GALLEY:

The classic U-shaped galley is considered one of the best galley arrangements on a cruising sailboat.  The gimbaled propane three burner stove has dish storage and cupboards outboard and additional storage below.  The microwave oven is built-in to the outboard galley cabinetry.  The freezer and fridge are on the forward side of the galley along with a flatware drawer and slide-out trash bin.  On the aft side are two deep stainless steel sinks with storage under, more drawers for utensils, a large deep locker outboard of the sinks and an overhead cabinet above the sinks.  The highly regarded Valiant pantry is just a step away, just aft of the navigation station and features 4 large slide-out drawers for provisions.

NAVIGATION STATION:

The navigation station is a full size, sit down, forward facing navigation station that affords a view of instruments, electrical panels and most of the ships controls.  It also provides an office for computer work, chart work or log work. Silver Girl has the custom file drawer under the nav seat to help keep things organized.

AFT GUEST CABIN:

An aft cabin should meet your requirements for comfortable accommodation for guests but in this case also doubles as a sea berth when sailing on a passage.   Located beside the companionway on the port quarter, the off watch crew member can be peacefully sleeping just three feet from the cockpit.  The cabin can be a full double berth private stateroom with the folding panel and door closed.  There is a dressing seat, two large drawers and a hanging locker.  Ventilation is excellent with two opening ports, and overhead hatch and a fan.  Under the berth is where the batteries and refrigeration compressor are installed.

HEAD AND STALL SHOWER:

The head is located in the companionway to starboard where it is easily accessed in a seaway.  The stall shower makes an excellent wet locker with a hanging locker outboard of the shower.  With hatch and opening port ventilation the shower is easy to use and keep clean.  Fiberglass enclosure with seat, teak grate and sump with pump.  Jabsco manual toilet, vanity with sink, cupboards outboard and even a clothes hamper!

DEDICATED ENGINE AND MECHANICALS ROOM:

One of the best thought through engine rooms on a sailboat.  It is accessed through the head behind the toilet. The companionway stairs can be removed to allow full access to the engine.  The mechanicals space is entirely separate from the living areas of the boat.  The design emphasis was to ensure an owner could maintain the systems anywhere in the world.

Construction Details

HULL CONSTRUCTION:

The hull is built of hand-laid solid fiberglass in a female mold.  Gelcoat is sprayed into the mold followed by a heavy layup schedule of fiberglass mat and woven roving in Isophthalic resin.  The resin is mixed in one gallon increments and dyed red to ensure the proper wet-out of the fiberglass.

The hull is reinforced the entire length of the rub rail with high density foam and is molded with an indentation to accept the sacrificial teak or vinyl rail with finishing stainless steel strake.

STRUCTURAL MEMBERS:

The floor timbers and stringers are constructed of structural foam and are glassed into the hull.  Bulkheads are built of marine plywood and glass tabbed into the hull sides and floor members.  All the furniture is built into the boat and glassed in place to hull or structural members creating a very strong rigid structure.

DECK CONSTRUCTION:

The deck is built in the same manner as the hull in a female mold.  Structural foam is used in high stress areas and end-grain balsa core is used in areas where there are no penetrations.  The deck cores are deleted in areas where equipment is to be mounted.

HULL/DECK JOINT:

The live hull/deck join is bedded in 3M5200 and mechanically fastened through the aluminum toe rail and the hull/deck flange every 4 1/2 inches.

EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION:

Attention to detail is apparent in the installations of components from plumbing to wiring to mechanical and electrical equipment.

Chain plates are fabricated of stainless steel and bolted through solid fiberglass knees with stainless steel backing plates.

The hull is insulated above the waterline with closed cell foam to eliminate condensation and reduce noise.

The engine room is insulated with 1" Soundstop lined foam to reduce noise.

KEEL, SKEG AND RUDDER CONSTRUCTION:

The external keel is constructed of solid lead with 17 X 3/4" stainless steel J bolts molded in place.  The keel is bedded with 3M5200 and secured with backing plates and nuts inside the boat.

The skeg is built of fiberglass.  The mounting flange is bedded in 3M5200 and mechanically fastened to the hull with 10 stainless steel bolts, backing plates and nuts.

The rudder is built with a stainless steel rudder shaft with welded-on webbing that is encased in structural foam and laminated fiberglass.  A cast bronze protective shoe is added to the bottom of the rudder blade which rests on the lower bearing hinge point of the skeg.  The rudder shaft comes through the hull in a seal and terminates in an upper bearing.  The steering quadrant is accessed through a lazarette locker.  The top of the rudder post provides a connection for an emergency tiller.

HULL EXTERIOR FINISH:

Silver Girl's topsides were painted with Imron polyurethane in Stars and Stripes blue with double gold boot stripe in 2014 and it looks like it was just done!  The hull below the water was epoxy coated and antifouled with Micron CSC.

SUPPORT:

Construction Notes

Hull & deck - Welded steel plate - nominal 3/16" with reinforcement in high load areas. Welded hull to deck joint with boxed welded high polished stainless steel toe rail.

Framing - 5/16" welded steel flat and angle bar, longitudinal (2 1/2") and transverse (3") framing, welded knees & gussets as appropriate.

Stanchion bases, connections to main and solent traveler, hatch rings (and similar) are stainless steel receiver parts welded to the deck.  Stanchions fit over the stainless steel peg.  Traveler mounting machine screws are tapped into stainless receiver parts welded to the deck.  Hatches are mounted to stainless steel receiver bases.  If the paint were to be scraped in the area of a stanchion base it would not likely show any rust as the deck surface is heavily coated in zinc-rich epoxy and the stanchion base peg is stainless steel rather than mild steel.

Keel is welded steel with encapsulated lead.

Through hull fittings are Marelon  (composite reinforced plastic) and all hoses are double clamped.

The hull and deck metal parts (above the waterline) are flame sprayed with molten zinc prior to coating in epoxy.  The metal below the waterline is coated in zinc-rich epoxy.  Above the waterline is painted with the Awlgrip paint system.  Below the waterline is antifouled.

The interior of the hull above the bilge is spray foam insulated including the underside of the deck. This provides remarkable temperature insulation as well as sound deadening.  These boats are warmer and easier to heat in cold climates and cooler and easier to keep cool in warmer climates.

The Pilothouse wrap-around windows are made of a glass and mylar sandwich with an external mirror finish.  The finish helps to reflect light and reduce heat inside on a sunny day.  The windows are optically clear and extremely strong.  The window mullions are relatively small and don't interfere with the panoramic view but are very strong as they are welded steel.

The interior is finished in cherry and yellow cedar with teak and holly planked cabin soles.  Subdivision bulkheads are marine plywood fastened to welded steel cleats with lab counter laminate, bright finished cherry or yellow cedar overlays.

Hydraulic fluid to run the anchor windlass and furlers is delivered from the engine room to the foredeck locker and back via pipes welded into the hull framing.  This avoids "twitching" flexible hydraulic lines working in brackets.  The hydraulic fluid is sent through an actuator system to the appropriate unit and then returned to the engine room to the Harken hydraulic pack.  The cockpit winches work in the same fashion.

Additional

"Moonshot" was created to be a comfortable, capable and secure Northwest (colder climates) cruiser that could be handled by a small crew. Most functions on deck can be run by either power assist or manual methods and all systems have a great deal of redundancy. Sophisticated and complicated at first, but ultimately simple and easy to use.

Beautifully constructed and finished with cherry and yellow cedar interior. All systems fitted with the best hardware available. Well thought out and executed in every aspect.

If you were dreaming of a view of the bay,...any bay you choose,....this could be your boat!
