Like all of the new Sun Odyssey models the 380 hull is a brand new design (Marc Lombard) that is powerful, fast and very stable.
*Full-length hull Chine: Keeps her from heeling past about 15 degrees and displaces water outward for a dry, comfortable ride.
*Scow Bow: Sails with bow "up" into the wind. Skips and hops across wave & swell rather than digging-in. Less wetted surface in light air.
*Twin rudders: Leeward rudder is vertical and deep in the water when heeled so it's very efficient and eliminates "rounding up" so you're never fighting the helm.
Performance Version w/ Grey DCX Square Top Main and Genoa, Black Composite Wheels, upgraded running rigging and rigging for Code 0 or assym spin (sails not included).

Designed by naval architect Marc Lombard with interior styling by Piaton Bercault, the all-new Sun Odyssey 380 features the award-winning walk-around decks, as found on the Sun Odyssey 410, 440, and 490.
Designed with performance in mind, the Sun Odyssey 380 features a powerful hull with a long graceful waterline. A large cockpit, twin wheels, dual rudders, an integrated bowsprit, and a high aspect Selden rig combine to deliver an exceptional sailing experience that even the most competitive sailor will appreciate.
Three key elements of Marc Lombard's hull design have created a boat that handles better than any other in the industry:
1 - Hard chine: The full - length hard chine just above waterline creates what is called "form stability" which effectively allows the boat to heel over to only about 15 degrees, a very comfortable heel angle.
2 - Twin rudders: The rudders are angled out at about 15 degrees, so when the boat settles on the chine the leeward rudder is vertical and deep in the water so it is extremely efficient. Steering is light and responsive and the high-strength synthetic steering cables are perfectly smooth and have zero slop. BUT MOST OF ALL... there is only very light weather helm and almost NO ROUNDING UP!! That's right, even when the boat is fully powered up and you get a puff you don't have to fight to keep her from rounding up, she stays straight and goes faster.
3 - The "Scow Bow": Moving back from the slightly reversed stem the bow broadens out and is spoon-bottom shaped at and under the waterline. This creates a lot of reserve bouyancy which keeps the bow up, skipping over chop and waves rather than digging-in.
