Mike Dorgan w/ Marine Servicenter Yacht Sales San Diego Offers this Beautiful Classic 50' Pilot House Calkins 50 sailboat will sure to impress with her timeless beauty and with her partial refit in 2020/2022 looking as if she were just delivered to her new owners only yesterday.... Old Glory is a Calkins 50 designed by W. H. (Skip) Calkins and built in 1968 by Tokyo Marine in Yokohama, Japan. It is 50 feet LOA and beam of 11 feet 11 inches. It has a draft of 6 feet 6 inches and a displacement of 42,000 pounds. The hull is triple planked 3/8" mahogany with a total thickness of Old Glory, Sailing the 2009 Half-Pint Race January Flag Boat - Old Glory USA AZU ESTO 11/8 inches. With two layers at 45 degrees from the keelson the final exterior planking runs fore and aft with V grooved seams. The boat features plenty of varnish and a fair amount of teak. It seems to sail best and fastest in stiff winds.
In 2008 Old Glory was judged Best Maintained Classic Yacht and Best Maintained Yacht Overall during opening day festivities at the San Diego Yacht Club, no easy feat. In 2009 again was judged Best Maintained Classic Yacht at SDYC. Also in 2008 and 2009 Old Glory was voted the People's Choice Award at the 18th and 19th annual 'Wooden Boat Festivals' held at the Koehler Kraft Boat Yard. Old Glory has been primarily used for cruising by her long time San Diego residents, and SDYC members, but have also enjoyed participating in racing especially the Ancient Mariners Half-Pint-o'-Rum race.
